Identification of Experimental Problem and Design

When you begin working on a research summary you should pay special attention to identify the problem of the experiment and the experimental design.

The problem of the experiment is the question that the scientists are seeking to answer and so in order to conduct an experiment, you have to be trying to answer a question.

Another way to say the question is a just a problem because the problem here is we’re trying to answer this question and so the nature or the characteristics of this problem should provide the structure and the shape of the entire experiment.

It provides structure and shape for the experiment and so based off of the question you’re trying to answer, you come up with an experiment to find the answer to that question and so that’s where experimental design comes in. It’s the specific actions and experiment that the scientists perform in order to help the problem. You come up with the question and you come up with a way to answer that question.

Now in order to understand the results of the research, you need to understand the rationale for the experiments that have been performed. That’s why it’s essential that you are able to identify both the problem of the experiment and the experimental design in a research summary.
