The 3 Secret Keys to GED® Test Success

  • Time is Your Greatest Enemy
  • Prepare, Don’t Procrastinate
  • Test Yourself over and over again

You should use these GED practice tests to examine your level of knowledge and skills before you start learning for the GED test. The points you are scoring on a practice test will give you a pretty good idea which specific subjects you need to learn, and which field you may skip. This allows you to optimally use your preparation time because you only need to go through the subject matter that you don’t master.

Test-taking Strategies

If your goal is to pass the GED, then you need to learn about test-taking strategies. Understanding the structure of the GED tests and learning basic test-taking techniques will increase your self-confidence and increase your chances to pass the test. Try to find the correct answer first, but if you don’t know it, use your eliminating or/and guessing strategies. Directions: Choose the one best answer to each question, says, Chris from Covcell. Covcell offers Decrypting the GED course.

Practice tests are great to identify what knowledge gaps you have but that you hadn’t expected. This experience will help you make strategic decisions about which subject lessons you need to learn. They are highly efficient tools to detect your strengths and weaknesses. If you manage to use the provided information in a wise way, you will be able to create your efficient study plan.

Math Formulas are allowed

The Mathematical Reasoning test contains a formula sheet, which displays formulas relating to geometric measurement and certain algebra concepts. Formulas are provided to test takers so that they may focus on the application, rather than the memorization, of formulas. Math formulas for the GED test are here.

Lower Scores Required For Passing GED® Test

In March 2016, the minimum required score to pass the four tests was adjusted from 150 to 145 on a 100-200 scale. Apparently, the bar was raised too high, so this was adjusted. Read more here. Successful completion of the GED exam will bring on new work opportunities and open up doors to colleges and universities. On a yearly basis, more than 500,000 people complete the GED exam, and you could be one of them.

Basic computer skills required to pass the GED test

You need to know how to work with mouse, tabs, keyboarding, basic word processing, access on-line calculator/formula sheet, highlight text. No longer are most test items full with multiple choice with four options, essay-style answering is the new standard.

Price of the GED test

In most states, the GED exam fee is $120 for all four sub-tests, and re-testing is $30 per subject, although costs vary. Maryland, for example, charges $45 for the entire battery, and in Arkansas, you pay $16 for all four parts of the GED examination. In New York and three more states, the high school equivalency exam (TASC in New York) is free (residents only), and there are also states that charge more than the usual amount. But regardless of the fee, let’s prepare you for the exam so you can pass all four tests in one take.

The GED Ready® practice test

GEDReady™ (The Official GED Practice Test) is the only practice test that tells a student if they are likely to pass the real thing. Our practice tests are not related to the Official GED Practice Test™ produced and distributed by the American Council on Education (ACE) and the GED Testing Service. ACE and GED Testing Service LLC have not approved, authorized, endorsed, or been involved in the development of, or licensed the substantive content of these practice tests.

Who can take the GED test?

Regulations vary by state, but in general, you qualify to sit for the GED exam if you:textual-evidence-for-predictions

  • Are at least 18 years old. If you are 16 or 17, you must have an approved age waiver.
  • Are not enrolled any other school program, and have not already received a high school diploma.
  • Have a valid, current, government-issued photo ID such as a driver’s license. Other examples of acceptable ID include passports, U.S. Military ID, certain Tribal ID’s, and Mexican Consular IDs.

The GED certificate or diploma is the equivalency of a regular High School Diploma and is accepted by virtually all government organizations, recruiters, employers and colleges in the United States. The GED exam is designed to determine the educational level of applicants at a level that compares to that of graduating high school seniors. Students who successfully complete the GED test will receive the GED or HSE (high school equivalency) Diploma or Certificate.

The new GED®

The GED exam has gone through its biggest renovation since it was introduced in 1942, and to remain a reliable option to determine a student’s capacities, the program standards have gone up.

What is new in the GED test?

The GED examination has always been subject to evaluation every ten years, but this time, the changes have been drastic. These changes are geared towards aligning the exam with the needs of the job market. These changes are mainly:

  •    Moving from paper and pencil testing to a computer-based system.
  •    Moving from multiple choice questions to questions that call for an analytical and descriptive type of answers. Even math, in the new set-up, is interactive.
  •    Overall, the candidate has to demonstrate the ability to look at issues critically, particularly in Social Studies.

GED Passing Score

Keep in mind that, to get a positive GED® test score, you need to answer at least 65% of all questions in every subject area correctly. The 2014 Series of the GED exam includes four separate tests (modules) that are measured on a scale from 100 to 200. The passing score was 150-200 and has been adjusted to 145-200, and averaging is not an option, you need to score at least 145 points on each of the four tests, so at least 580 in total. Click here to learn more about the adjusted GED passing score.

The new changes to the GED exam will greatly benefit potential employers. There has always been the danger of getting employees who have academic certificates but who are unable to fit well in the work environment. The new GED® exam is set to address that weakness. A productive employee is one who can analyze situations and come up with appropriate solutions. Likewise, post-secondary educational institutions want to welcome students who have what it takes to appreciate more complex matters and even do research. The TASC and HiSET exams have different scoring systems.

No Online GED, TASC, or HiSET Testing

What everyone needs to know is that some unscrupulous people try to con candidates. So please be aware that you can only take the exam when you present yourself in person in an accredited examination center. Anyone purporting to offer the GED test, HiSET, or TASC test online is a con.

Websites that offer the GED (or the TASC-HiSET) exam (or the diploma) online are just trying to steal your money. GED-HiSET-TASC ‘diplomas’ or ‘certificates’ obtained over the internet have absolutely no value and will surely not be accepted by schools or potential employers!

The GED Alternatives: TASC and HiSET

The TASC and HiSET tests have five tests. Here, the Language section contains two separate tests on writing and reading. The TASC and HiSET exams don’t have the same scoring table like the GED test. In the post on your state or city, you can find details.

Why Use Practice Tests to get ready for the real test?

This post is the 2017 edition of Covcell’ practice tests for the GED test and HiSET and TASC tests. We have practice tests with 10, 15, 25 and 50 questions. Our practice tests with a timer will build your confidence and your time management skills. On the official GED test, you have just 2,3 minutes to answer each GED question. That is real pressure. Practice under the same pressure and increase your confidence.

  • Specific subject practice tests will give you a pretty good idea whether you master the content of that subject area. If you are, for example, studying geography, you can take a geography practice test to find out if you understand geography topics well, or whether you need to study more.
  • Passing the geography practice test indicates that you may skip that part of the course, but if most geography questions cause you difficulty, you will need to repeat our video geography lessons over and over again.
  • Practice tests are very helpful to measure real learning, and pre-tests will also teach you how to concentrate on the main issues, and disregard irrelevant or less important things.
  • Practice tests are great to identify what knowledge gaps you have but that you hadn’t expected. This experience will help you make strategic decisions about which subject lessons you need to focus on.
  • Practice tests are highly effective tools to identify your strengths and weaknesses. If you manage to use the provided information in a wise way, you will be able to create your personal, efficient study plan.
